Project Aim

The aim of the project is to prevent/control diabetes among patients with tuberculosis by training TB health care personnel in diabetes education, screening and control.

To develop a cost effective model for screening diabetes among TB patients.
Expected outcome:
Expected Impact in 3 years:
1.Around 300 paramedics would be trained on the screening and diagnosis of diabetes mellitus
2.Around 300 health workers would be trained in prevention of diabetes
3.An estimated 1000 doctors would be trained in prevention and management of diabetes.
4.Around 50 screening camps would be conducted
5.Creation of awareness and screening to about 2500 TB patients in prevention of diabetes
Methodology
I – Training the doctors, paramedics and health workers in preventing diabetes among TB patients
II – Educating TB patients on prevention of diabetes
I. The first one year of intervention will be considered as a pilot phase of the project. In collaboration with above mentioned organizations, the project will be launched in Chennai.
Capacity building will take place at different levels. The TB health workers will be trained in diabetes prevention, detection and screening. The medical professionals will be trained in diabetes diagnosis and management of TB patients.
